About 70% of Americans own a pet. The number of pets insured in the U.S. exceeds 3 million and written pet health insurance premium is over $2 billion. Growth has exceeded 20% annually in the last several years. Currently, there are about two dozen companies offering Pet Health Insurance. Insurance policies can vary considerably by benefits.The Insurance Policy Scoring (IPS) is the only process that independently numerically measures premium, coverage and claim payment for high risk, moderate risk and low risk pets for insurance policy comparison. IPS is patent pending.

In addition to insurance plans, there are also alternative pet reimbursement (non-insurance) plans (ARP).  Generally, these programs are less expensive and offer coverage for unexpected emergencies, but have limitations regarding procedures, limits and surgeries.
